Move A Widget To Another Website
A widget stays attached to the website it was created under. To move it, paste the same snippet on the new site and update the website’s domain in Settings.
In Flidu, a widget belongs to the website it was created under, and its snippet never changes. So moving a widget is not a transfer inside the dashboard. It is two small jobs: put the same snippet on the new site, and tell Flidu the new domain. This page covers that move, and what to do when you want a second website instead.
What Moves And What Stays
Everything about the widget lives in Flidu, not on your site: its channels, appearance, Visibility & Targeting settings, connected AI Chatbot and install key. The only thing on your website is the snippet. That means:
- The snippet on the widget’s Install tab works unchanged on the new site. You do not need a new key.
- The widget keeps its channels, its drafts and its published state.
- Its analytics and any stored records stay under the same website in your dashboard.
- The Domain saved for the website does not update by itself. You change it on the Settings tab.
Move A Widget To A New Domain
Use these steps when your site is moving to a new address, or you rebuilt it on another platform. You need to be the workspace Owner or an Admin to change the settings.
- Open Website Widgets, choose the website, and open the Install tab. Click Copy.
- Paste the snippet into the new site once, in its site-wide area for body-end code. Where To Paste The Script and Platform Placement Notes cover the placement.
- Publish the new site.
- In Flidu, open the Settings tab. Under Site Settings, change Domain to the new address and click Save Changes. Update Site Name as well if it has changed.
- Open a page of the new site and confirm the launcher appears. Then return to the Install tab and click Verify Installation (the button reads Refresh Status if the widget was detected before). “Last detected” should read “just now” or a few minutes ago.
- Remove the snippet from the old site.
If only the address changed and the site itself is the same, the snippet is already in place. Change the Domain, then run the check.
How To Enter The Domain
Enter the plain domain, such as example.com. A leading https:// or www. and anything after the first slash are removed when you save. A subdomain such as shop.example.com is a different domain from example.com, so enter the one your visitors actually use. If you see “A site with this domain already exists in your account.”, another website in your account already uses that domain.
Why The Domain Setting Matters
The launcher shows on the new site as soon as the snippet is there, but forms check where a submission comes from. Contact Form, Guided Form and Feedback accept submissions only from the Domain saved for the website. If you move the snippet and leave the old domain in Settings, submissions from the new site do not reach you. So change the Domain as part of the move, then send a test message from the new live site and confirm that it arrives.
The same field supplies the domain shown on the Overview tab’s Install card, so updating it keeps that status line accurate.
Two more things are worth a look after a move:
- Page Targeting. Rules match page paths. If the new site uses different addresses for its pages, review the rules on the Visibility & Targeting tab, save them and publish the changes.
- Ask AI. A connected AI Chatbot keeps the content it has already indexed; changing the Domain does not update it. If your pages now live at new addresses, or their content changed, open the AI Chatbot’s Data Sources tab, add or edit sources so they point at the new addresses, and index them. The number of sources follows your AI Chatbot plan. See Add Website Data Sources.
When You Want A Second Website Instead
Sometimes another website means a different site that should run alongside the first. Do not reuse one widget’s snippet on two sites: forms accept one domain only, and both sites would share one set of settings and one set of analytics. Create a website for the second site instead:
- In Website Widgets, click New Website Widget and complete the flow with the second site’s domain. Create A Website Widget walks through it.
- Add and publish its channels on the Channels tab.
- Copy the new widget’s snippet from its Install tab and paste it on the second site.
A website created this way starts clean. The Duplicate button on a widget’s page copies that widget within the same website. It does not copy the widget to a different website, so you set the channels up again on the new one.
The number of websites in a workspace depends on your Website Widgets plan:
| Website Widgets Plan | Websites |
|---|---|
| Free | 1 |
| Starter | 1 |
| Pro | 10 |
| Business | 25 |
| Agency | By preset, from 100 to 1,000 |
| Enterprise | Custom |
On Free and Starter, which include one website, changing the Domain is how you point your widget at a different site. To run two sites side by side you need a plan with more websites; see Pricing.
Moving Between Workspaces
A website cannot be moved from one workspace to another. If someone else should take over a website and its widgets, keep that website in its own workspace and transfer ownership of the workspace. See Agency Workspace Patterns and I Need To Transfer Ownership Or Remove A Workspace.
