Country Targeting
Country Targeting shows or hides a widget for visitors from the countries you choose. Any Website Widgets plan can prepare and preview the rule; publishing it live needs Business or higher.
Country Targeting shows a widget’s Contact side only in the countries you select, or hides it in them. It belongs to the Website Widgets product line and works at country level only.
Plans And Where To Find It
In the dashboard, open Website Widgets, open the website, and select the Visibility & Targeting tab. Country Targeting is the fourth card in the list. If the website has several widgets, choose the widget first in the Website Widgets card on the Overview tab.
Publishing Country Targeting on a live widget is included on Website Widgets Business and Agency, and on Enterprise it follows your agreement. On Free, Starter and Pro the card reads Preview only with an Included from Business badge: you can choose countries, save them and run the preview, but not publish. Country Targeting follows your Website Widgets plan, not your AI Chatbot plan, so AI Chatbot Business does not unlock it. See Pricing and Plans Per Product Line.
Set Up Country Targeting
- On the Country Targeting card, click Configure. The button reads Edit once the setting has been saved, and on plans below Business.
- Choose a mode: Show Only in Selected or Hide in Selected. Show Everywhere applies no country list.
- Click Add Country, search by name or two-letter code, and click each country you want. Selected countries appear as chips. Click the cross on a chip to remove it, or Clear All to start again.
- Under If a Visitor’s Country Can’t Be Detected, choose Show Widget or Hide Widget. Show Widget is the recommended choice, so that no visitor is blocked by mistake.
- Read the Summary line, for example "Visible only in Canada, United States."
- Click Save Changes. On Business and higher, the card now reads Draft changes.
- Click Publish Changes. The card reads Active once the rule is live.
Country Targeting is saved and published on its own. The Publish button at the foot of the tab covers the other settings in the list, not this card.
Preview A Country Before You Publish
The editor has a Preview as Visitor From box. Pick a country, or Country not detected, and click Preview. The answer is one of three results.
- Widget visible: a visitor from that country gets the Contact side.
- Widget hidden: nothing appears for that visitor.
- Widget hidden · Ask AI still appears: the Contact side is hidden, and the launcher stays because Ask AI is available on the same widget.
The preview checks your saved settings, so click Save Changes before you run it. It tests the country rule on its own and does not change your live widget.
What Visitors See
A visitor from a country the rule excludes does not get the widget’s Contact side. If the widget has no Ask AI, nothing appears, launcher included. If an AI assistant is connected to the same widget and Ask AI is available, the launcher stays and opens Ask AI only. Visitors are not told that a rule applies.
Matching is at country level only. The country is worked out from the visitor’s internet connection when the page loads the widget, so a visitor on a VPN is treated as being in the country their connection appears to come from. Flidu does not show you where an individual visitor is. Country Targeting also works alongside the other rules on the tab: every rule that is switched on must pass together.
Change Or Stop The Rule
Every edit is saved as a draft. After Save Changes, the card reads Draft changes until you click Publish Changes; your live widget keeps the last published countries in the meantime.
To stop targeting by country, set If a Visitor’s Country Can’t Be Detected to Show Widget, switch the mode to Show Everywhere, then save and publish. Show Everywhere clears the selected countries, so add them again if you return to a country list later.
Turn Off on the card takes Country Targeting off the live widget straight away. The widget shows to visitors from every country again, and the card reads Configured · Off. Use it when you want Country Targeting removed from this widget. For a pause, use Show Everywhere as described above.
If Country Targeting Does Not Behave As Expected
- Save Changes cannot be clicked: Show Only in Selected and Hide in Selected both need at least one country.
- Preview says the feature is temporarily unavailable: save your settings first, then run the preview again.
- The card reads Republish needed: your saved countries are not live right now. Click Publish Again.
- The card reads Temporarily limited: premium Website Widgets features are temporarily unavailable on the live widget because of this month’s visitor usage. They return when you upgrade or your usage period resets. See Usage Limits, Grace Thresholds, And What Happens Next.
- The launcher still appears in an excluded country: it is opening Ask AI, which Country Targeting does not hide.
- You see no change from your own desk: you are browsing from a country the rule allows. Use Preview as Visitor From to test the others.
- The card says "You do not have access to change this setting.": only an Owner or Admin of the workspace can use Country Targeting.
Website Widgets Business also adds a Country Breakdown card to Analytics, showing an aggregated share of widget activity by visitor country. See Website Widgets Analytics.
