Show Widgets By Page Or Device
Use Widget Visibility by Device and Page Targeting to choose which screens and which pages show your widget. Each rule is saved as a draft and goes live when you publish it.
Two settings on a widget’s Visibility & Targeting tab decide where its Contact side appears. Widget Visibility by Device chooses the device types, and Page Targeting chooses the pages. Both are saved as a draft first and reach your website only when you publish them.
Where To Find The Settings
In the dashboard, open Website Widgets, open the website, and select the Visibility & Targeting tab. The two cards are the first in the list, under the heading Visibility & Targeting. Rules belong to one widget, so if the website has several widgets, choose the widget first in the Website Widgets card on the Overview tab.
Plans That Include Each Setting
| Setting | Included From | On Lower Plans |
|---|---|---|
| Widget Visibility by Device | Website Widgets Starter | Free can save a draft but not publish it |
| Page Targeting | Website Widgets Pro | Free and Starter can save a draft but not publish it |
Both settings are also included on Business and Agency, and on Enterprise they follow your agreement. On a plan that does not include a setting, its card shows an Included from badge and an Upgrade button. These settings follow your Website Widgets plan, not your AI Chatbot plan. See Pricing for the full comparison.
Choose Which Devices Show The Widget
- On the Widget Visibility by Device card, click Configure, or Edit if that is what the button reads.
- The Desktop, Tablet and Mobile tiles all start selected, each with a tick. Click a tile to leave that device out, and click it again to put it back. Keep at least one tile selected.
- Read the Preview line under the tiles, for example "Visible on desktop and tablet."
- Click Save Changes.
- Turn on the switch on the card. The device rule applies only while this switch is on.
- Click Publish Changes on the card, or Publish at the foot of the tab.
The device type comes from the width of the visitor’s browser window when the page loads, not from the make or model of the device. A narrow browser window on a computer can therefore count as a tablet or a phone.
Choose Which Pages Show The Widget
- On the Page Targeting card, click Configure, or Edit if that is what the button reads.
- Under Where Should This Widget Appear?, choose Only Matching to show the widget on the pages you list, or Hide on Matching to show it everywhere except those pages. All Pages switches the rule off.
- Click Add Condition. Pick Exactly matches, Starts with or Contains, then type the path, for example
/pricing. - Add more conditions if you need them. A page matches when any one condition matches.
- Read the Summary line, then click Save Changes.
- Click Publish Changes on the card, or Publish at the foot of the tab.
How Paths Are Matched
- A path is the part of the address after your domain. It starts with
/and has no spaces. The domain, and anything after a?, are not part of the match. - A new condition starts as Starts with
/, which matches every page. Replace it with your own path. - Exactly matches
/pricingdoes not match/pricing/or/Pricing. Capital letters and the closing slash both count. - Starts with
/blogcovers every page under the blog, and also any other path that begins with the same characters, such as/blog-archive. - For the home page, use Exactly matches with
/.
Page rules also let you run more than one widget on a website, each on its own pages. Page-Specific Widgets For Campaigns walks through that setup.
What Visitors See
A visitor on a device or page that the rules exclude does not get the widget’s Contact side. If the widget has no Ask AI, nothing appears there at all, launcher included. If an AI assistant is connected to the same widget and Ask AI is available, the launcher still appears and opens Ask AI only. To show nothing at all on a page, leave the install snippet off that page. Visitors are never told why a widget is not shown.
Every rule that is switched on must pass together. A widget set to Mobile only, and to pages starting with /shop, appears only in phone-sized windows on shop pages. Rules are checked each time a page loads; a page that is already open does not change.
If A Rule Does Not Behave As Expected
- The card reads Draft changes: the setting is saved but not live. Click Publish Changes.
- You edited a rule that was already live: after Save Changes, click Publish at the foot of the tab. The edit stays in the draft until then.
- The device choice has no effect: check that the switch on the Widget Visibility by Device card is on, then publish.
- Publish cannot be clicked: look for a setting that is switched on but not included in your plan. Turn off its switch, then publish.
- A page still shows the widget: compare the address with your condition, including capital letters and the closing slash. If only the launcher remains, it is opening Ask AI.
- A change is refused: only an Owner or Admin of the workspace can change these settings.
