Ask AI Loads But Gives No Answer

If every question gets “This feature is temporarily unavailable.”, Ask AI cannot respond: check your monthly AI messages first. A reply saying it lacks the information points to a gap in your sources.

Free uses Claude Haiku 5.5 and paid public plans use GPT-6 Luna. Explicit internal and Enterprise assignments use the saved model. An unavailable model or missing/exhausted spending limit stops generation; Flidu does not switch to a different model. Sign-in and sign-up are currently unavailable while we prepare account access.

When a visitor asks a question and no useful answer comes back, one of two different things has happened. Either Ask AI could not respond at all, or it responded and said it did not have the information. The two look alike and have different fixes, so start by reading the reply itself.

Read The Reply First

What The Visitor SeesWhat It Means
The fixed message “This feature is temporarily unavailable.”Ask AI could not respond to that question. Go to the causes of the unavailable message below.
A reply in Ask AI’s own words saying it does not have enough informationAsk AI responded, but your sources do not cover the question. Go to the section on missing information.

While Ask AI is working on a question the visitor sees “Thinking…”, and the reply replaces it. Visitors are never told why Ask AI could not respond: no plan, limit or error detail is shown. Ask AI stays open, the visitor can type again, and nothing is retried automatically.

Test The Same Question In Preview

In the dashboard, open AI Chatbots, choose your assistant and open the Preview tab. It is open to the workspace Owner and Admins. Ask the question the way the visitor did. Preview uses the same sources and answer settings as your live widget, so it is the quickest way to read the reply a visitor would get. The line under the test chat shows how many AI messages you have used this month. Questions you ask in Preview count toward that allowance.

Causes Of The Unavailable Message

Check these in order, starting with the one you can confirm in the dashboard.

  1. Your monthly AI messages are used up. The assistant page shows “You’ve reached your AI message limit”, and the Usage tab shows the AI messages meter at its limit with the reset date. Every question gets the unavailable message until the allowance resets or you upgrade AI Chatbot. See I Reached My Monthly AI Message Limit.
  2. The page was open while you changed something. A page that is already open keeps the widget it loaded. If you paused, disconnected or archived the assistant after that, questions asked on that page get the unavailable message. Reload the page so the widget shows its current state. If the Ask AI tab is then gone, see The Ask AI Tab Is Missing From My Widget.
  3. Several questions were sent in quick succession. Ask AI limits how quickly questions can be sent. Wait a moment and ask again. Preview has its own limit of this kind, which reads “Too many previews right now. Please try again in a moment.”
  4. The question did not reach Flidu. The same message appears when the visitor’s connection drops while the question is being sent. Ask again once the connection is back.
  5. A temporary problem with the AI service. Ask AI handles each question once and does not retry by itself. Ask again after a short while.

From AI Chatbot Starter, Chat Logs help you confirm the cause for real conversations. Open Analytics, select the AI Chatbot tab, then Chat Logs. Each conversation carries an answer status such as Answered, Limit reached, Rate limited or Failed. A question that never reached Flidu leaves no entry. AI Chatbot Analytics explains the view.

If the unavailable message continues after you have ruled these out, contact us and include your website address and the time you tested.

When Ask AI Says It Lacks The Information

This reply is an ordinary answer. Ask AI is instructed to answer from your sources and to say when it does not have enough source information, so the wording varies from question to question. The fix is in your content.

  • Check that indexing was started. A source that still says Draft gives Ask AI nothing to read. On the assistant’s Data Sources tab, select Start indexing on its card.
  • Check that the page was indexed. On the same tab, look for the page in Indexed Content. Website URL and Sitemap sources index a limited batch of pages per crawl, so a page you rely on may need naming in a Manual URL List. See Review Indexed Pages.
  • Check where the fact sits on the page. Flidu reads the main page text and leaves out header, navigation, footer and sidebar elements. It also does not read text that only appears after scripts run. Put the fact in the body of a page.
  • Add the missing answer. Add a source that covers the topic, within the number of sources your plan allows per assistant. From AI Chatbot Starter you can also add Manual Q&A pairs, or save a reviewed answer under Corrections / Preferred Answers on the Settings tab. See Add Website Data Sources.
  • See what visitors asked. On plans that include AI Chatbot analytics, the assistant’s Analytics tab has an Unanswered Questions card. Content Gaps From Visitor Questions explains it.

Give Visitors Another Route

A widget that offers both Contact and Ask AI keeps a Contact tab beside Ask AI, so a visitor can reach you whichever reply they get. From AI Chatbot Starter, Fallback Capture can also show a short contact form together with the unavailable message. Fallback When AI Cannot Answer covers both.

What A Working Assistant Looks Like

  • The assistant page shows no limit notice, and the AI messages meter on the Usage tab is below its limit.
  • In Preview, a question your pages cover gets an answer, with a Sources list under it when Source Cards are on and sources were found.
  • On your website, the same question gets an answer followed by Helpful and Not helpful buttons.
