Suggested Questions And Source Cards

Suggested Questions give visitors prompts to tap when Ask AI opens. Source Cards list the pages behind an answer. Set up both and see what visitors get.

Two small features shape how the Ask AI tab feels to a visitor. Suggested Questions show what your assistant is good at before anyone types. Source Cards show where an answer came from, so a visitor can open the page and read more.

What Visitors See

When a visitor opens Ask AI, they see your greeting message and, under it, your live suggested questions as a list of buttons in the order you saved them. Tapping one sends it as a question. The suggestions disappear once the visitor has sent a first message.

With Source Cards on, an answer can be followed by a short list labelled Sources, with up to three entries. Each entry is the title of a source. When the source is a public web page, the title is a link that opens the page in a new tab. When it is a file, pasted text or a Q&A entry, the title is shown as plain text. Not every answer has sources: none are listed when nothing relevant was found.

Add And Manage Suggested Questions

In the dashboard, open AI Chatbots, choose your assistant, and open the Suggested Questions tab. The same list is in step 3, Behavior, of the Create AI Chatbot flow while the assistant is still a draft. The workspace Owner and Admins can edit it.

  1. Select Add question.
  2. Type the question, up to 120 characters.
  3. Under Visibility, choose Set Live to show it to visitors or Save Disabled to keep it for later.
  4. Select Add Question.

Every change saves immediately. There is no separate save button and nothing to publish: visitors get the updated list the next time the widget loads on a page. Live questions are grouped under Live · shown to visitors and the rest under Saved · not live.

Row StatusMeaning
LiveShown to visitors in Ask AI.
Disabled or DraftSaved in your list and hidden from visitors.
LockedA live question beyond the number your plan shows, for example after a downgrade. It is not shown to visitors.
  • The switch on a row sets a question live or hides it. A locked row shows a lock in place of the switch.
  • The pencil icon edits the wording. It appears on live questions only, so to reword a question that is switched off, set it live first, or remove it and add it again.
  • The bin icon removes a question.
  • A question that is already in the list is refused as a duplicate.

Live Question Limits By Plan

The counter beside the heading shows how many are live against your limit. At the limit, a new question is saved as disabled; hide a live question before you set another one live. Your list can hold up to 50 questions in total, live or not. For Agency and Enterprise, see Pricing.

Choosing Questions That Work

  • Pick questions your indexed pages answer well. Review Indexed Pages shows what the assistant can draw on.
  • Word them the way a visitor would ask, and put the most useful ones first.
  • Try each one in the Preview tab before you set it live.
  • A tapped suggestion counts as one AI message, the same as a typed question.

Turn Source Cards On Or Off

Source Cards are on by default for a new assistant. They work on AI Chatbot Free, Starter, Pro, Business and Agency; Enterprise is set by contract.

  1. Open the assistant’s Settings tab.
  2. Find the Source References section.
  3. Use the Source Cards switch. Its description reads “Show which pages an answer came from.”
  4. Select Save changes, below the Custom Instructions section. Visitors get the change the next time the widget loads on a page.

The Visual Source Cards switch on the Fallback step of the Create AI Chatbot flow, and in the Answer Intelligence section on paid plans, controls the same setting: changing one changes the other. Visitors get the same Sources list either way, made of titles and links.

What A Source Card Tells YouSource Cards list the content Ask AI looked at for a question. Treat them as a pointer to read more, not as proof that the answer repeats that page word for word.

Check The Result

Open the assistant’s Preview tab. The test chat shows your greeting and the first few of your live suggested questions, and answers there list their sources as cards with a title and page address. The dashboard preview notes above the chat show Source Cards · On or Off. Questions you ask in Preview count toward your monthly AI messages.

From AI Chatbot Starter, the assistant’s Analytics tab counts Suggested Question Clicks and Source Card Clicks, which tell you whether visitors use them. AI Chatbot Analytics covers the other figures.

If Something Does Not Appear

  • No suggested questions in the widget. Check that at least one row is Live and not Locked, and that Ask AI is published on the widget you are looking at.
  • A question is missing. It may be disabled, or beyond the live number your plan shows.
  • No Sources under an answer. Check that Source Cards is on and saved. Sources are also left out when nothing relevant was found for that question.
  • A source is not a link. Its content came from a file, pasted text or a Q&A entry, which has no public page to open.
